William Marletta Safety Consultants is a second-generation, family-owned safety consulting business. It was founded in 1989 by Dr. William Marletta, CSP, who, while applying to medical school, suffered an accident that changed the course of his entire career. After falling off a high rack storage scaffold, he hit his head and suffered complete memory loss. The accident saw Dr. Marletta shift from a profession in medicine to public safety and health, and the importance of community and jobsite safety became not only the touchstone of William Marletta Safety Consultants, but a personal passion project that has spanned decades.   

Dr. Marletta’s accident highlighted a severe deficit of safety precautions, standardizations and safety consulting. The need to develop safety programs and inspections to mitigate and control safety hazards inspired him to become a safety consultant of his own. From there, he went on to become the Senior Director of the world’s largest conglomerate at the time, Ogden Allied, developing safety programs and maintaining the safety of fifty-four different companies before starting up his own company, William Marletta Safety Consultants.   

Since then, Dr. Marletta has become a leading expert and trailblazer in the safety consulting industry. He is an internationally recognized safety professional with many accolades to his name, including an “Award of Merit” from The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) for his contributions to the development of standards. He was also a world recipient of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Safety Professional of the Year. 

Over the course of thirty years, William Marletta Safety Consultants has grown to investigate and become actively involved with legal cases dealing with safety issues across a broad spectrum of industries. Dr. Marletta has also developed William Marletta Safety Consultants into a family-owned business, where his son, Anthony Marletta, Ph.D., (ABD), plans to follow in his father’s footsteps.
